How to compress a photo to 50 KB on mobile

By the ToolSandook team · Updated

Online forms for exams, jobs, colleges and scholarships often say “photo must be under 50 KB” or “between 20 KB and 50 KB”. A phone camera photo is usually 2–5 MB, which is 40 to 100 times too big. Here is the fastest way to fix that on your phone, without installing anything.

The 1-minute method

  1. Open Compress Image to 50 KB in Chrome (Android) or Safari (iPhone).
  2. Tap Choose an image and pick your photo from the gallery.
  3. The page compresses it to 50 KB or less automatically and shows the new size.
  4. Tap Download. The file is saved as a JPG in your Downloads folder (Files app on iPhone).

Need a different size? Use 20 KB, 100 KB, or type any number in the Target size (KB) box on the Image Compressor.

If the form has a minimum size too

Some forms say “20 KB to 50 KB”. Our tool aims as close to the limit as it can while staying under it, so a 50 KB target usually gives 40–50 KB. If you ever get a file that is too small, set the target closer to the top of the range, for example 48.

If the form also asks for pixel size

Some forms want exact dimensions such as 200 × 230 pixels or 3.5 × 4.5 cm. Do this first, then compress:

Tips for a sharp photo at 50 KB

  • Use a plain, light background. Busy backgrounds eat up kilobytes.
  • Crop out extra space around your face and shoulders.
  • Take the photo in daylight. Low-light photos have grain, which compresses badly.
  • Always upload JPG unless the form clearly accepts PNG.

Is it safe?

Yes. ToolSandook compresses the image inside your own browser, so your photo is not uploaded to our server. That also makes it work fast on slow mobile data.

Each exam or portal sets its own rules. Always check the official notification before you submit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce photo size to 50 KB without an app?

Open ToolSandook's Compress Image to 50 KB page in your phone browser, choose the photo, and download the result. No app or sign-up is needed.

Why is my compressed photo blurry?

Very large or detailed photos have to lose more quality to fit 50 KB. Crop extra background first and use a plain background for a sharper result.

Can I compress to exactly 50 KB?

The tool gets as close as possible to 50 KB while staying under it, usually 40–50 KB, which is what forms with a 50 KB limit accept.
